It was 10 years ago that the YNR label burst onto the UK scene with some of the freshest hip hop English ears had ever heard, in the form of Jehst's "Premonitions" EP.
And they kept bringing the goods after that, again and again and again, with a roster that featured some of the finest emcees & producers in the country: Evil Ed, Tommy Evans, Lewis Parker, Cee Why...
Now to celebrate their first decade, the Young n' Restless are descending on the Jazz Cafe to give us a showcase of the sort of hip hop that has made them a force to be reckoned with.
More antics occurring over at Doomtree.net, courtesy of Paper Tiger. He is going to be doing a series of quick-fix mixtapes that will be released 'whenever I get a chance to make a new one'.
As you might have guessed from the flyer and title, your friendly neighbourhood baritone, Chali 2na, is hitting our shores for another live show this year. Not content with bringing us the awesome "Fish Outta Water" album and playing an absolute stormer in London earlier this year, now he's back for more! We must have been a good crowd..
Doomtree, Doomtree, Doomtree... that's probably all you're going to hear from us for the next couple of months, well at least until "False Hopes 15" is released anyway. That is a bit of a way off though and if you're anything like us, you need something now.
Well luckily for us there are people like 2DopeBoyz, who scour the virtual ether for exclusives and the like, to keep our insatiable appetites under control for at least a little while longer. Last week it was the Felt boys, this week it's Doomtree's turn.
Next month sees the arrival in the UK of two of Stones Throw's most heavyweight emcees: Guilty Simpson and MED. They will be hitting London town, bringing the Stones Throw Xmas cheer with them and giving us all an early gift for the festive season, thanks to those folks at Doctor's Orders. We've heard quite a bit from Guilty over the past year or so, but not so much from MED, so be good to get him over here again. Also he will be doing some of the new tracks from his highly anticipated sophomore album, set to drop next year.
Oh wait, what's that you're saying? Yesterday's Felt 3 freebie not enough for you? Need something else to fill the void? I bet you do. Well we're never one to shy away from the demand for all things hip hop and so now we have another track from Felt 3 to giveaway at everybody's favourite price.
Madlib, his many incarnations and his 4 ton record collection always come with the goods. Too numerous to mention, but you all know the score by now anyway. Well now the Madliberator is in the lab creating a 12 part CD series under the title of "The Medicine Show". Set to be released over the course of 12 months, it will be a collection of his new hip hop production, remixes and beat tapes. Plus soul, funk, Brazilian, psych, jazz and 'other undefined forms of music'.
Felt 3 is out next week, people, and to celebrate the Rosie Perez Tribute, 2DopeBoyz have gone and scored a free download of one of the tracks from the album.
Yes people, the time is upon us again. Suspect Packages is coming liiive and direct, gracing us with the presence of some more immense UK talent. As if the previously billed, SonnyJim (with his Eat Good Records cohorts) and Tactical Thinking, wasn't dope enough, they've now added Micall Parknsun AND Joker Starr to the line up.
