Throw your WMs up Def Jux giving away free shit is becoming a regular occurrence nowadays. For a while they even had a section on their website called "Free Shit", where you could cop stuff like the photo lyrics book for "None Shall Pass". That disappeared, but the goodness lives on through the free EPs and singles they keep leaking out for us humble followers.

DILATED PEOPLES EVIDENCE SIGNS TO RHYMESAYERS

evidence Grammy winning rapper and producer Michael "Evidence" Perretta has just signed a multi album deal with our favourite label Rhymesayers Entertainment. As one-third of the venerable Los Angeles Hip Hop staple Dilated Peoples, Evidence has spent the better part of his decade plus in the game, touring the globe and collectively selling well over 700,000 units. In addition to his Dilated work, Evidence has produced tracks for the Beastie Boys, Linkin Park, Defari, Planet Asia and more, including co-production on Kanye West's debut The College Dropout. In 2007, Evidence set out to solidify his solo career with the release of the critically acclaimed 'The Weatherman LP'. Followed up by 2008's 'The Layover EP' and over 200 shows, Evidence has spent the last couple of years building a foundation of supporters, fan by fan.

    INJA “HAT LOW” SINGLE RELEASE

G's up, hats downInja (like ninja but without the n) is releasing a new single, "Hat Low". The word rowdy and its various synonyms, are all you really need to give an idea of what we're dealing with here, but I thought I'd better pad it out a bit more. If you like this sort of thing normally, then you will love this joint cos not only is Inja tight - check his tune on the Suspect Packages comp, or any show he did with Foreign Beggars - but he is also rolling deep with those veteran cheeky scamps, Skinnyman and Fallacy. If you caught the DMC final in London this weekend then you will have seen Inja doing the host routine. I like his flow, although I'm not sure how versatile it can really be. It sounds sweet over this Gunjaman beat though.

CHALI 2NA “FISH OUTTA WATER” ALBUM REVIEW

Fish Outta WaterEveryone loves fish related things: fish fingers, sushi, Capt. Bird's Eye, that lesbian film, "Go Fish"... the list is almost endless. Near the top though has to be the least hated emcee in the history of hip hop, Chali 2na. A few years back Mr 2na talked of releasing a solo album, "Fish Outta Water", and he seemed to carry on talking about it without actually bringing the plan to fruition. Now though (after 5+ years) the album is here in all it's baritone glory and you know what? It was worth the wait, folks. I was sad to hear when Jurassic 5 split a couple of years back. Their first album is still in my top 10 and memories of first hearing "Concrete Schoolyard" are up there with "NY State of Mind" and "Them That's Not".

LA COKA NOSTRA “A BRAND YOU CAN TRUST” ALBUM REVIEW

LCN It is definitely a bloody Sunday today. The title of the intro track therefore feels perfect to start writing a review for the album, made by the always energetic G’s of La Coka Nostra. I’m quickly going to run you guys through the album, ‘A Brand You Can Trust‘, track by track. Familiar with the LCN sound of both the vocals and the productions, "Bloody Sunday" is another good one for the fans. Lovin’ the simple guitar riffs, although a solo bridge would really finish the track. "Get You By" is one for in the car with the windows down and for the die hards in the pit screaming out the lyrics of the chorus, while busting they own lips. Uncle Howie called Uncle Snoopy for "Bang Bang", a track can’t really go wrong when the D.O. double G is on it: ‘I don’t care if he’s a cop, you got to bang bang’. And then ‘WOW!’….

ME FIRST & THE GIMME GIMMES LIVE REVIEW!

img_7066 Me First & the Gimme Gimmes, Useless I.D & The Remnants @ Bristol Academy, 06/06/09. Starting off the night were Bristol’s own Pop Punkers, The Remnants, or as I like to call them, The Green Idols. Kicking off their set with live favourite “Square One” The Remnants proceed to fit in as many songs as they can in to a half hour slot, making the most of the space they were given and working the crowd in to a small frenzy. I can definitely see these nerds becoming a force to be reckoned with in the near future.

FREE DEF JUX ALBUM! GET IT WHILE IT’S HOT (AND FREE)

FreebiesWe love finding free stuff to share with you lot. We're getting pretty good at it too, you know with all the competitions and download links and whatnot. Well we've been scouring the net for more premium music at everyone's favourite price and this time we've found a whole album from those lovely folks at Def Jux. It's called a sampler but don't let the name fool you. Most samplers I've come across in the past have been little snippets of stuff that's due to be released or from the label's back catalogue; the tracks on offer here are all full length and they're also individual downloads so you can pick and choose what you want.

MR SCRUFF STILL LIKES TO KEEP IT UNREAL

UnrealI keep reading things that make me feel old. Like the fact that it was a whole decade ago that Mr Scruff released that inimitable opus, "Keep it Unreal". Inimitable, even by the man himself as I reckon I wouldn't be alone when I say that the material which followed, while still being worth a listen, didn't always reach the heady heights of his second album. And maybe that's why this year has seen the release of a digitally remastered 2CD version of "Keep it Unreal". I am always a little cynical about these reissued, remastered marketing ploys, even where everyone's favourite tea drinker is concerned, but this one comes with six new little beauties, previously unreleased, which are taken from the original recording sessions.
