There have been rumours circulating for a while now that one of Bristol’s most notorious sons, Banksy, is planning a massive show somewhere in his hometown. Well last night it was revealed where and when this would go down. The answer - Bristol City Museum (to start with anyway and if the council don’t stick their oar in…) and it all kicks off officially tomorrow.

This will be the first exhibition he has done in Bristol since 2000 and I remember that being a pretty low-key affair, with a few pieces hung on the walls of the Severnshed restaurant, down on the docks. Back then, it was good to see some of his proper studio pieces up close, but this time round we’re in for over 100 installations, ranging from canvasses to some of his more recent animatronic work, which you may have seen used in that crazy pet shop piece he did in New York.

The city council were only told about this morning and the installations were done in secrecy. But Banksy was present, disguised as one of the crew so staff wouldn’t work out his identity. There is some stuff going on at the Weapon Of Choice Gallery as well, but I still need to get hold of the details.

The Banksy Vs. Bristol Museum show opens tomorrow and is running until 31 August.
