YNR “FEEDING TIME AT THE ZOO” ALBUM REVIEW
It was only in March that YNR brought us the massive debut album from Jyager, “Encrypted Scriptures”, but apparently that wasn’t enough. Now they have got all the whole camp together for a compilation to end all compilations. Exaggeration? Maybe. But this is the illest this year, most definitely.
YNR Productions houses some of the best emcees this country has to offer and they all get to put their two pence worth in on this album - Mystro, Jehst, Kyza, Jack Flash, Verb T, Micall Parknsun… and they’re all on point, all bringing new material which is gratefully received with open ears.
For those of you who copped the classic, “Young N’ Restless Vol. 1″ compilation back in 2003, you might be surprised to see some new names being added to the already stupidly impressive roster. Joker Starr kicks things off impressively with his track, “Welcome Back Home” - we need to hear a lot more from him in the future - and he’s swiftly followed by Dubbledge and his comedy stylings on, “Alphabets”. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a verse by that dude that hasn’t made me let out at least a little chuckle. Also Cappo joins the ranks on “The Jewel Man”, where his East Midlands tones work well over a sick Jehst beat. Long before I spent a few years living in Notts, I was a fan of Cappo and so I’m stoked to see him working with YNR crew now.
Jehst also brings some nice drum patterns for Mystro to do his thing on and unsurprisingly Mysdiggy does not disappoint. The track “I Got This”, along with Cappo’s track, are probably my favourites from the whole album. Having said that I reckon if I listened to the album again right now, I’d probably come up with another choice for top tune because there is nothing going on on this album that isn’t worthy of the accolade. “Feeding Time At The Zoo” is out on Monday, 25th May.

The Cappo tune is so sick. Jehst’s beat compliments his style perfectly. Been looking forward to his next album for ages (spaz the world’s my favourite uk album easily). Hopefully Jehst will be on the boards for some of that, and maybe some spitting too.
I was also really feeling Double D Dagger. Really grimey Leeds stuff. “get confronted, in the back alleys/black ballies/two black bastards brandishing daggers/hands wrapped in black bandanas” and “get kidnapped like the mum of robinho” are siiiick lines.
that Sonny Jim track was sick too. just the perfect beat for his style. i reckon the YNR regulars got blown away by these three songs. and i wish Kyza was as good as he is on guest spots (think jehst, triple darkness, evil ed). he could be one of the top emcees in britain if he actually tried. his album was pretty shit and this song was only saved by the brilliant chorus.
Kyza seemed to lose his powers when he left TF. His album should have been the dopest thing since dope things first came about, but instead it was just about mediocre at its highest points.. I’ve ranted about that before and I’m sure I will again at some point.
