• DJ VADIM “HIDDEN TREASURE” SINGLE REVIEW

    DJ Vadim - Hidden Treasure

Summer is on the way folks, I can feel it in me bones. But if you needed more proof, just look at the abundance of sunny sounding rhythms that are being released just at the right time to be heard blaring out of car stereos and wide open windows, when the sun does eventually put his hat on properly.

I reckon one of the biggest singles to drop will be “Hidden Treasure” by the original white Russian, DJ Vadim. The reason for my predictions? The infectious Ska samples and velvet smooth vocals for a start. The voice comes courtesy of Sabira Jade, who comes from the jazz school of singing, and what a voice it is. I see BIG things coming from her in 2009.

As usual Vadim’s production is strong and his recent victory in a battle with cancer seems to have fully reinvigorated him and this has only helped to make his music as technically and sonically sturdy as it ever was before, if not more so.

There are two other tracks making up the rest of the single: “Soldier” - a reggae inspired, radio friendly anthem featuring the help of France’s Big Red, who many of you will remember from Vadim’s last LP, “The Soundcatcher“, and 5Nizza, a relatively unknown duo from Vadim’s homeland. The other is “Saturday“, featuring Pugz Atomz, which includes a very good use of the Auto-Tune process, thet increasingly hated on effect favoured by the likes of Kanye and Lil Wayne. I got no beef with Vadim using it though, it sounds goooood.

With a new lease of life and a new album, ”U Can’t Lurn Imaginashun“, on the horizon, this should be Vadim’s year. “Hidden Treasure” is out on BBE on April 27th
