WORDSMITH AND I.N.C. THE POET “TAKE A WALK IN MY SHOES” REVIEW
Baltimore: Home of The Wire and an emcee called Wordsmith. UK heads will be familiar with that name already, of course. We have a Wordsmith of our own from London town and he’s dope. But this isn’t him. This is a dude from Baltimore, just to make that clear. He’s linked up with an emcee from Holland who goes by the name of I.N.C. The Poet, and they’ve released this little number, “Take a Walk In My Shoes“.
It’s basically about where they live and what it feels like to come from there. Sounds pretty clichéd right? And yes, it is. The production comes from Strada, a Canadian beatmaker, who has created an odd sound here. There are a lot of synths going on and its got a very pop-like feel to it. Not my thing really. The lyrics are pretty standard too.
Wordplay doesn’t always need to be technical but if it isn’t, you better be sure that your flow is strong enough to keep people interested. I don’t think either of these emcees have that quality. It looks as though Wordsmith is aiming at the commercial market, what with appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and so on, and I think he’s achieved that sound with this single, but I’ll wait to see what the full album sounds like.
If you’re into this sort of thing then check this record out coz the summer is coming and this definitely has that kinda vibe going on. I’m sure it’ll get rinsed at a lot of BBQs and the like, over the coming months. Myself, I’ll probably stick with some Doomtree.
N.B. The pic is the album cover coz I can’t find shit for the single.
