DOOM “BORN LIKE THIS” ALBUM PREVIEW
Yessir, the man is back. After much churning of the rumour mill and a pretty hefty backlash from his fans over his live performances, Daniel Dumile returns with his first solo offering in over four years. The artist formally known as MF DOOM (It’s just DOOM these days, all caps…) is back with a vengeance and he’s as crazy as ever.
Unfortunately there are no advance copies of the full LP up for grabs, but DOOM has personally compiled a five track sampler to whet our appetites and for the record, it’s worked a treat.
Avid DOOM followers will most probably have already heard the opening track, “Ballskin“, being blasted on his Myspace, and for those who haven’t, expect some bounciness on the beat from Rhymesayers favourite Jake One. But the production blessings don’t stop there. Next up is the inimitable J Dilla giving yet another posthumous offering on “Lightworks“. The beat will be recognised from Jay Dee’s awesome, ”Donuts” and works well with DOOM’s random flows. Some guest vocal tones can be heard on “Angelz“, and it’s those Wu-Tang scallywags, Ghostface and Raekwon who make up the guilty party.
Even Charles Bukowski makes an appearance. The original alcoholic author’s dystopian poem, “Dinosauria, We“, is read by the man himself and rescored by DOOM on the track, “Cellz“. A short little number by the name of, “That’s That“, brings up the rear of the sampler and is probably the most DOOM-esque track out of the lot.
The best bit about all this is that the full length, 16 track LP drops in just over a fortnight and it’s being released worldwide by UK independent favourite, Lex Records. Expect a full review nearer the time. For now get your ears wrapped around his Myspace.
