ESLAM JAWAAD “REWIND DJ” REVIEW
Eslam Jawaad is a name you may have come across already. If you copped The Good, The Bad & The Queen’s album, then you will have heard the track “Mr Whippy” and so you would’ve heard Eslam dropping science about our fair capital city.
A lot has happened since then and Eslam has been propelled to heady new heights, leading to the forthcoming release of his debut album, “The Mammoth Tusk” and the first single, “Rewind DJ”.
Yeah okay, so he probably could’ve found a more inventive title but who cares when you’ve got happy hip hop heroes De La Soul on the guest spot and a party beat to make even the most moody heads get their grin on.
The hook is a play on the hook from that Aaliyah track, “Try Again”, except this time round the line is, ”If it was up to me, I’d never let hip hop die again” and whoever sings it sounds spookily like the late soulstress. De La’s verses are on point as usual and you know that this track will be heard at parties and in clubs up & down the country, when it does drop.
The B-side, “Hip Hop Sucks”, deals with a pretty played out theme: hip hop not being as good as it used to be. The track is okay if you ignore the message cuz as far as I’m concerned, hip hop is just as good as it used to be and better in some cases, you just have to look in the right places and not at The Source or Hip Hop Connection.
Mr Jawaad has created a nice little offering here, from the beats to the lyrics, all the way to the artwork on the sleeve and this is going to be a BIG party tune in the coming months. The single drops on 26th January.
