• FOREIGN BEGGARS VS. ROUGE A LEVRES “HIT THAT GASH” REVIEW

As you’ve probably heard by now, UK favourites Foreign Beggars are back and they’ve returned fully mob handed with a single to put the rest of 2008’s offerings in the shizzade, yo!

This time it’s a cross-channel affair with the help of France’s finest, Rouge A Levres, as well as a whole heap of remixes, refixes and rehashes to whet the palette of all the grime-electro-dubstep heads on both sides of the pond.

The running theme here is filth, PURE filth - from the title of the track to Orifice Vulgatron’s opening verse, all the way to the hook - dance floors are going to be turned into one big grinding mess when this tune hits the decks.

The main beat comes courtesy of Rouges A Levres and kinda reminds me of that Dizzee track, “Stand Up Tall”, well it’s in the same vein anyway. Not what you’d expect from the Beggars if their previous two albums are anything to go by, but from the sounds of it this is how things are going to be done from now on.

I’ve never been one for crossovers but I can’t really argue if they come out sounding as tight as this. As I mentioned before, the slew of remixes (nine in total!) have beats to suit all tastes, from dubstep to electro, and I challenge anyone out there to find me funnier names than the ones they’ve picked for them - Itchy Naaan Re-Rub and “True Say Mans On a Grizzle, Still” Remix - pure jokes.

The whole package - the track, the remixes and the video - all hit the spot as far as I’m concerned. When I first saw the amount of remixes I was dubious, because when you normally get that amount you end up with boring interpretations of the same track by artists you either don’t care about, or you’ve never heard of. But here, each of the tracks stands out either because of the emcee guest spots, or because of who’s behind the boards and the overall quality of the original.

The Beggars new album, “The United Colours of Beggattron“, is set to drop soon and if this taster is anything to go by, be prepared for some high octane hip hop heaviness.
