SICK OF IT ALL & WISDOM IN CHAINS LIVE REVIEW

Posted by Jen on 26.04.2008, 18:25

Sick of It All + Wisdom in Chains live @ The White Rabbit, Plymouth.
    April 16th 2008.

After an intro song filled with guitar solos and a lot of anticipation from an eager crowd, Mad Joe started to pound his vocals into the first song, “Liar”.

Fast drumming and awesome guitar riffs filled The White Rabbit and the crowd went off. The second song, “Dragging Me Down”, had the crowd going off and fighting for the mic with an awesome sing-along. The guitars chugged and halfway through an awesome solo kicked in. The song had a real Blood For Blood feel to it.

By the time Joe announced that the next song would be, “Smash Your Face” the crowd were more than ready to go all out.
The whole show got more intense with songs like “Early Grave” and “Cap City”, but finally all good things must come to an end.

Wisdom In chains played out the set with that awesome song that everyone loves to get going to “Fighting In the Streets”. As the final end of Wisdom In Chains bulldozer of a set came upon us, the crowd were eagerly awaiting Sick Of It All.

Amidst the random cheers coming from individual members of the crowd waiting for the mighty Sick of It All to take to the stage, I took a glimpse out of the curtain separating the backstage area from the stage, and the sea of, punks, new school hardcore kids, moshers and some really hot girls. I thought to myself, “If this is how far out Hardcore band that have been going for 20 years can reach, then they must truly have the respect and loyalty of their fans”. Not many bands can defy the law of physics “What goes up, must come down.” But Sick Of It All have continued against this relentlessly and will continue to do so.

The first song of the night was “Let’s Take the Night Off”, the crowd instantly kicked off and began chanting the words right back at Lou (vocals), who was doing everything he could to make this crowd enjoy themselves. I saw one kid crowd surf and smack his head on the overhead lights. Another jumped from the P.A into the sea of fans. This was a fucking live show!

The moment I was waiting for all night was when Lou would shout “Step Down” into the mic in his coarse yet powerfull voice and cheers and fists would errupt from the crowd, this personally was my favourite song of the night as I imagine the same for others. The band even managed to pull off their usual live calling card by making a massive wall of death form to the start of “Scratch The Surface”.

Armand (drums) was pounding away. Pete (guitar) was up to his usual antics running all over the stage leaping about and doing scissor kicks like there was no tomorrow, and Craig (bass) was pumping that bass and hyping the crowd so much you would’ve thought he was going to collapse. The show was everything you’d expect from Sick Of It All and the crowd certainly loved it! Songs like “Built To Last” and “Step Down” really did make the night!

After the guys left the stage the crowd started to chant. Then came the encore, the band did a cover Minor Threat’s “Betrayed”. The show was awesome and I think its pretty safe to say everyone there had good clean fun! I’d like to thank Craig and Joe for having us join them for a spot of Chinese food after the show!
