NO USE FOR A NAME LIVE REVIEW

Posted by Jen on 16.04.2008, 14:14

No Use For A Name @ Bristol Academy 2. April 14th 2008.

After the support band the crowd waited for No Use For A Name with an air of anticipation, were they going to be as great as they hoped? Or would they suck ass? The band eventually came onto the stage and took a little while to set up, but after a short time the band started to play to the eager crowd with a track of their new album “The Feel Good Record Of The Year”.

The band were full of energy, Tony Sly’s vocals were coming through clean and clear, and the band were on top form.

As they kicked into the third song things really started to get good. The first part of the riff for “Dumb Reminders” kicked in and there was a mosh pit behind the horrible restricting barrier that lets down almost every gig at Bristol Academy 2.

The crowd were singing along, fists in the air, this was something truly great. One guy even managed to dodge security, got on to a box that was in front of the stage and dived into the waiting crowd. As the security went after him Matt Riddle(Bass) nodded to the bouncer with a look of disapproval as if to say “Don’t worry about it he’s having fun, nobody’s gonna get hurt you fool!”. And this was just the start of the insane gig, so many songs were played and a lot of fun was had.

Classics were played including “Friends of the Enemy” and “International You Day”. Sing-alongs were had and everyone seemed to be having a great time. As Sly announced the last few songs were going to be played really close together with no break, Matt’s mic stand decided it was going to fuck up. Noticing the Bio-Mag character from the No Use album “The Daily Grind” tattooed on my friends neck, Tony Sly beckoned him onto stage and made him sit on the box, acting as a human mic stand for Matt. The last song was an old one, “Feeding the Fire”. Sly got my friend up on stage, put his guitar down and they sang together.

Despite being so jet-lagged, No Use For A Name really did put on an awesome show. As soon as it began, it was over in one great big sing-along. If you haven’t seen them live yet and are a fan, try and catch them next time they come on tour to the UK, it’ll be well worth the wait!
