TRIPLE DARKNESS “ANATHEMA” ALBUM REVIEW

Posted by Jen on 13.04.2008, 20:39

BOOM! Here we are again. After the triumphant release of “Anathema - the Single”, Triple Darkness return with the “Anathema” album and it’s more of that good shit. You’ve probably already read the review of the single on here, as well as the introduction piece and interview, so you know where they’re coming from in terms of style and the views they’re trying to get across, and this album reflects that exact same work ethic.

Still high on the praises being thrown at them by everyone from Knowledge Magazine to Jehst, Triple Darkness have made a BIG impact on the scene. Joining them to secure the success are a whole heap of guest speakers including long term associate Skriblah, as well as Kyza, Blind Alphabets and D21. And Kyza is definitely on this. Those of you who read the single review will know that I was convinced he wasn’t featured on there, in spite of what it said on the sleeve about him being on “Heresy”. Turns out I was right; it wasn’t even “Heresy” on the single, it was “Machinations”. Both those tracks are on the album and sure enough Kyza drops a sick verse on “Heresy”. Melanin9 is another one who comes with some dopeness, especially on “Politikin”. In terms of lyrics, this album rarely falters. My only gripe is that sometimes Chemo and Beat Butcha’s beats get a little lackluster. I like that grimey sound, but I like a bit of variation too. Don’t get me wrong though, this album is definitely worth copping. I’m just being picky.

There isn’t much else I can mention about these guys that hasn’t been said already, the only thing that’s really left to say is that you’d be fools not to believe the hype and you should all go grab a copy of “Anathema” when it’s released at the end of the month. Believe.
