TRIPLE DARKNESS INTERVIEW

MCs Nasheron & Cyrus Malachi aka Hackney based duo Phalanx Heresy teamed up with the West London based M9 to form Triple Darkness. After their debut album ‘Anathema’ being reviewed on the site a few weeks back, we thought it would be cool to get some words from the guys in this interview in the run up to their much-hyped support slot with Redman & Method Man later this month in London.

The album, featuring Skriblah DanGogh, Blind Alphabetz, Kyza Smirnoff, Amenoir, D21, & Blasphemy, and produced entirely by Beat Butcha & Chemo…went off a storm down here at Style43. You can order a copy over at our favourite UK hip hop online store, suspect-packages.com

How does it feel to be finally releasing an album together, after years of hard graft?
It’s a very good feeling, when you have struggled so hard to get your product out and its finally heading to the major stores. I think all things happen for a reason and everything is right in terms of timing and promotion for this project to make an impact.

Was it tough to keep things going when Cyrus was in prison and how did the experience change your perspective, both as a group and as individuals?
It was tough but anything worthwhile in life is never easy. It showed us both that if you have a vision and passion even the most extreme circumstances wont get in your way.

Nasheron, what were you doing to keep the dream alive during that period?
I was regurally in contact with Skriblah and the Beat Butcha and in constant communication with Cyrus so we exchanged rhymes and ideas while I persued connects and links outside.

How did you come to hook up with M9ine and what was it about him that made him switch from just being a guest on the album, to becoming an integral part of the project?

We hooked up with M9ine via Skriblah he introduced us to him and from there we featured him on a track it turned out dope we gelled so we began working together more closely until it felt right to all come together as Triple Darkness.

How did the name Anathema come to be? Is it a particular thing you are referring to, or just the general state of the world?
Anathema had a multi layered meaning for us as the title to the L.p. it refers to the condition of Nubian people worldwide as the most hated and detested people due to two thousand years of persecution, colonialism, enslavement physically and spiritually and the constant invasion of Africa by outside forces who sought to exploit our continent and people it also refers to the form of Hip Hop we represent the purest form which has become an obsolete and detested forgotton art form which we intend to resurrect hence the winged scarab as our symbol which is an ancient Kemeten/Tamarean symbol of renewel, rebirth and resurrection

We know that you and Skriblah go back a long way. Are there any Terra Firma collaborations in the pipeline?
We are always open to working with them they are one of the illest groups the UK has seen.

There seem to be more and more collaborations nowadays, between heads on either side of the Atlantic, like the partnership of End of the Weak and Speakers’ Corner for example. Is that scene something you’d like to get involved with?
Me(cyrus) and m9ine have already collaborated with a very talented producer and lyricist called Bronze Nazereth of the Wu Tang Clan.

Where’s the project headed next, after Anathema has been released?
We intend to promote Anathem all year round then follow it up next year with an even sicker L.P.
